Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Kind of like a democratic response to the republican’s “contract with America“.
From the contract:
First, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress.
I think the majority of americans would agree that the republican congress defaulted on that contract.
Neocons, you’re fired.

Received an e-mail this morning from Julie Shapiro, a second year law student:
Interesting fact from my products liability class:
The average payout for a soldier killed in Iraq is $12,000– that’s it!
There were proposals to raise this to $100K or $200K, but the REPUBLICANS ensured that it never made it to the floor of Congress citing that there just wasn’t enough money. (remember these are the same republicans that pork-barrelled a $223 Million bridge to nowhere in Alaska).
So let’s see . . . 2,239 soldiers killed in Iraq x $100K = $223.9M
Hmm . .. Who REALLY supports our troops?

Jerome Howard at MacLiberals.com, the man who originally highlighted The Church of MacUpdate, was kind enough to investigate my allegations of censorship.

Yesterday I submitted the new widgets to MacUpdate.com, the site that proclaims “posting your update before ANYONE is our business” (MacUpdates’s caps, not mine). Well 24 hours elapsed with other updates to that site but no democracy widgets to be seen.
I e-mailed Joel Mueller, Mr. MacUpdate, with an inquiry but as of now have not received a reply. Maybe by “posting your update before ANYONE” they mean the New York Times Sunday Edition or perhaps Political Science Quarterly? Maybe he’s referring to my yet to be born children? I could wait and see, but I have a feeling that I’d sooner see these widgets on WhiteHouse.gov than MacUpdate.com. Here’s why:
Reeking of right wing censorship, could this possibly be related to the Steve Jobs plus Jesus christmas bombshell that MacUpdate dropped on Dec. 25?

As expected, the commentary (here, here, here, here, here, and here) on the new Iraq war widgets ranged from praise and thanks to ignorance and Rovian style personal attacks. My favorite so far is the response of WillThomasHauge to James Steele (screenshot here if link fails). Thanks Will.

Advances in body armor and army field hospitals have led to an increased survival rate among soldiers compared to previous wars. However, many more soldiers are returning home having lost limbs in injuries that would have killed them a generation ago. I hope that this widget raises awareness of the support that these disabled veterans will need. Download.
